HR Block - H&R Block Emerald Card

This is my story. I had my tax refund direct deposited onto my Emerald card. I got the rapid refund loan. This disqualified me from getting my stimulus direct deposited. The last 2 digits of my SSN are 98. This means I am one of the last to receive a paper check in the mail.

I called H&R Block customer service (which is a joke by the way) and asked them this: "Since I don't have another bank and I have my payroll directly deposited onto this card, where can I cash my check when I recieve it in the mail?" They had NO CLUE, and they didn't care.

I send them questions about other things in emails and every single !!!!!!! time, they send me the same generic response. Please CALL our customer service. So I asked them this: "What the he!! good is using the emails when this is your same response EVERY time?" They had NO CLUE. Also, they charge you $2.50 to call customer service.

The people that answer the phones there have to look up the answer every time for even the simple questions. They are underpaid so I am assuming, not educated. The reason I know this is because one of them actually told me she got her electric shut off!!

Adding salt to my wounds was being declined at Wal-Mart to cash the check because when they ran it through their telechek machine, it was coming up system error. The guy at Wal-Mart said it can't be a telechek error, because I always get a receipt with a fail reason code and a phone number for people to call. There was nothing. Over and over again. They couldn't figure it out and they said there was no way to override. Well, considering I signed the f-ing thing in front of them, as is their rule, I said well, now what do I do? They didn't have a clue. I said I will call telechek and maybe I had a mark on there from a long time ago. Turns out, I did. From May of 2003. I said that is over 5 years old. They said it stays on there for 7 years. I said what can I do to take care of it? She said I can pay telechek over the phone with a credit or debit card. I did not know that telechek is now a DEBT COLLECTOR too!!!! This was a matter of $51 and a service charge of $25 of course. Well, go figure, since I had a check for $900, I spent my last 89.99 online for a software upgrade before I knew I would be declined by Wal-Mart.

Here's my opinion about telechek. Isn't that service there to warn companies about bad checks? Obviously, the US Treasury should not even be scanned by a check system. I know this because I asked telechek, "how can telechek have anything to say about this?" They said take it to a place that does not use telechek. This response, in combination with a lack of an error code, leads me to believe I am right. I will be complaining about them too.

On top of the wonderful day I was having, I finally went home (disappointed and ashamed) and got locked out of my place! When I took 1 of my 3 dogs outside, one of the other dogs jumped up and hit the deadbolt! I had to crawl through a window. I work full time and try to pay ALL of my bills. Why do I feel like such a loser right now? I even went to college and now I have GINORMOUS DEBT!

Well, I'm done complaining for now. I will NOT be filing my taxes at H&R Block EVER EVER EVER again. I have been using them for 15 years.

Wish me luck, for tomorrow I will try my luck at cashing Uncle Sam's piece of paper once again!

I used the emerald card and they charge an arm and a leg for everything. Then I asked to payday it off and then got a bill in the mail for 16 bucks. When I called in, first it took forever to find someone who spoke English, then they said out was interest charge. WHAT! I PAID IT OFF! I guess not. I borrowed 1000 ended up paying darn near 1500. That's ridiculous! It was less than 3 months too. Never using h&r block ever again!

I've been going through h&r block for over 15 years and I have not ever had a problem with my taxes. no less I have not ever had a problem with the emerald card. my payroll check is deposited on the card every week. I use the emerald card for everything and earn rewards for using it as well. I think it's great.

Even if you are required to offer the card, as an employee of a company offering a product you should know or have access to the answers your clients ask about the product. So don't pawn it all off on clients not reading their paperwork.

And especially don't pawn it off saying that "And last dont say you will never use HR Block again, dont blame us, Emerald Card has its own company BLAME THEM". The card is a direct product of your company. If you review your own company's website it states that, "H&R Block Emerald Prepaid MasterCard is a product of and issued by H&R Block Bank, a Federal Savings Bank and a member of FDIC."

This is why I will not use H&R Block. Even your own staff and employees do not know what they are offering nor do they know about their company itself. How would I trust you to know the in's and out's of the IRS tax code if you cannot read through a disclosure statement about fees and terms from YOUR OWN BANK.

WOW! I been working for HR Block now for four years. Its understandable people have complaints about the emerald card. First of all its a service that HR Block associates are required to offer. Sometimes we ourselfs dont know all the ifs or whats. But you need to ASK QUESTIONS and READ THE PAPERWORK. It says that you can cancell your card. Secondly its a debit card just like all cards there are fees. Third if you opt to pay a fee to get your money on the card and just money doesnt go on the card. THEN YOUR NOT CHARGED THAT FEE. People I know the card can be a pain BUT READ, & no one is forcing you to take the card. TIP: Open a bank account for only 2 months that way you can have your refund direct deposited and save the hassell. And last dont say you will never use HR Block again, dont blame us, Emerald Card has its own company BLAME THEM. Thax

Its amazing to see all the obviously uneducated people complaining here. Bad grammar, bad spelling, poor English from people complaining about poor English. I have dealt with H and R Block for 10 years and have never had a problem. I use the Emerald Advance Card and never have additional surprise fees. This may be due to the fact that I read the information given me. I have never called their help line and talked to someone I can't understand and was certainly never charged for this. I highly recommend them. If you dont trust having them do it than i suggest you do it on your own and wait six weeks. Greed is a horrible thing.

They barely speak English and don't know what in the heck they are talking about. They are a rip off and anyone who is thinking of getting one of their cards-stay away from them!

:( My compliant is that H&R Block changes their rules and regulations more than to often. Example You may qualify for the emerald card one year and next year you may not, because they have change their rules and up their qualification.

I have absolutely no problem with HR Block...got my tax return in full on the card, and i actually like their banking so I transferred my bank account to their bank...although it is only one location in the country in Kansas City, i have not had any issues with them.

I also did the Emerald Card instant return so that I could pay my school tuition as it was due. The payment went through on February 27th. On April 2nd I get a phone call from the school saying the money had been "retracted" by H&R Block. I immediately called H&R Block and was told it was the school, so I drove to the school. The school SHOWED me where H&R Block had taken the money, but they are saying they don't have it. I have been going back and forth and have gotten a different answer back from everyone I have talked to. I DO NOT recommend the card at all. I will, however, say that I do not blame the office who did my returns. They were wonderful and have been trying to help any way they can! I just don't know what to do about getting the money back that's in limbo somewhere!

H&R Block does not charge for customer service calls you lunatic. It amazes me that you blame you bad credit history and lack of being able to get a proper credit account on a company that is trying to offer you options. Go to another tax provider and see what options you get, how quicly they rip you off and how you feel when you leave. The reason america is in the financial turmoil it is is because people like you blame all your issues on anyone/thing you can. GROW UP!

I applied for a tax course thru hrblock.I
had made my payment by credit card over the
phone, well they said they never got it.I called my credit card company they saidthey already had sent the payment out.hrblock had told me fax my credit card statement to them.Well when I did they said it wasnt enough thats bull ***. The coroporate office gave me the run around. The office in Indianopolis act like they didnt know what I was talking about, even though they ere the ones who took my information for payment. I do think that something needs to be done about this big o hoover sucking machine. I guess they think well we are to big for anybody to do anything, honey the bigger you are the harder you are going to fall.

Perhaps had you actually listened to the tax preparer and read what you signed you would 'remember' the fees are in black and white for you to see even after the preparer tells you about them - its only hidden if your not listening or paying attention.
HR Block is NOT responsible for what the IRS or Treasury dept or Telechek or Walmart decides to do - I didn't see one complaint that your Tax Preparation was incorrect!

Boo hoo hoo! You tried to cash a check at Wal*Mart and they wouldn't cash it and you blame H&R Block! But the check was from the Treasury Department! You are a piece of work. Get a life. :cry

I hate HR Block. In 2007, I used them for my tax last yr and everything was fine, except for all the hidden fees they charge. I got my tax refund on the emerald card, and then got rid of it, thinking I was done with it. Then the government decided to give a stimulus package. Then, the Tax administration office decided it would be best to give out the fund the same way they sent out the 07 tax return. Upon the urgent news, I called H R Block to get another card sent to. Needless to say, I have made 5 attempts, not exaggerating, to get my new emerald card, but to no avail have I received my money.
