H&R block is the worse place you want to go to file your taxes. they just did my tax return and charged me $380!!!!

She also did made lots of mistakes on my papers.

I called them next day to return all that wrongly filled papers back to them before file them and asked my money back but they didnt help me. So i am filing a complaint with www.adr.org

the RAL loan is from hsbc bank and does not have a $40 payment. The Emerald advance does have a $40 monthly payment until it has to be fully paid by feb 15th.

It is a loan and it has to be paid back regardless if the irs releases your refund. If there were an error on your taxes they can help you with that at the tax office.

get piece of mind then???????

You had to sign the emerald advance contract which states when it must be paid by and if not paid by then it will be withheld from your taxes. Stop trying to blames others for you not reading the fine print.

JH .... would you like to get into a contest with an EA who works for H&R Block and see who knows the most about income taxes?

Your statement that only a CPA is a "real tax professional" says a lot about you.

Take another Ethic course... you need a refresher.

Tax offices (including CPA's) rely heavy on the computer software they utilize. CPA's use often a comprehensive questionaire that is used as their input sheet. Often your tax returns are prepared by someone in the backroom simply entering the input sheet. H&R Block has hundred's of thousands customers and yes they do make mistakes just like everyone else. But a handful of complaints compared to hundreds of thousands returns prepared is insignificant. Tax Associates are tax preparers and take the information you provide to them. They are not legal advisers nor can they read your mind so you have to ask concise and specific questions to avoid a "general" answer. Bank questions should be addressed with the bank. Banks do not discuss individual personal issues with anybody but the tax payer not his or her tax preparer.

Letters you may receive from the IRS or the State regarding your tax return can be brought into any year around H&R Block office for either clarification or required action. If you have a complicated return ask the tax preparer if they are able to do your return given him/her all the facts of the return involved. As far as advances (Bank Products) that is merely an added service to their clients. Try to get an advance (loan) from your CPA office or have them take your fees out of your refund.

Convenience is costly businesses are in business to make money believe it or not. Public and Private Tax businesses are not the equivelant of a non profit organization. Nobody is ever forced to pay any of the fees that H&R Block charges. You can go in have your return prepared and at the end say it cost too much and walk out with your tax documents with no problem.

If you have a service problem or complaint contact first the office manager if you don't receive a response contact the District Manager. Anybody in the local office will give you their telephone number.

2 years in a row HR block made errors on tax preparation.. first time, forgot to include my wife's identification copy for her W7.

This year, we had some stocks investment... the *** HR block miscalculated and came up with only $700 refund. Asked for a 2nd opinion from a person who has been preparing taxes for 20 years.. HR representative was wrong..

we should be getting $900 more... When we went back to complain.. *** guy was making all the excuses! He said that he computed it that way because of a stimulus fund which we clearly told him we did not get!

I actually do not trust these guys (at least those who serviced us).. they make a lot of typo errors and if we were not sharp enough, that will definitely be a problem... and please.. can the company provide them with a something to moisten their fingers..

I feel overly grossed that they had to lick fingers and touch the forms/papers.. extremely yucky!!!

As a Block preparer I do my best to explain all fees. I don't want anyone surprised or unhappy.

Unfortunately, a rare client will change their story. This means that according to them I "lied", not that there is new or different information and an amend needs to be done with possible additional fees. RALs and RACs and Emerald Advances are products I always explain the fees/costs and repayments about because it is in the clients best interest to minimize their expenses. The same with the Emerald Card.

They then choose based on their need. I have not had any of my clients complain that they didn't understand the costs/fees/repayments.

I never had a problem. They actually helped me save money because I am working and don't want to deal with them. I went to Jackson Hewitt and they took a lot of credtis I was not entitled to and I had to pay a lot of money back over a period of three years.

Let's talkk about HR, even though they did make the mistake. I had to pay to Ammend my taxes, you stated that your company would correct the problem, yes you are correct with an fee.

I spoke with Corp and office manager, tell me if they corrected the problem? Okay, let's talk about the RAL loan. The consultant should have explain, the money you borrow will be taken when you file your taxes. Now, today I read the loan papers it stated I had 2 options.

I could pay all when filing taxes or make monthly payments.

Why don't you read the loan procedures. I have spoke with several people and they preferr not to file next year with the 'BLOCK'

To all that have had negative comments on your HR Block experience. We at HR are not high school students. We also have seen many cpa and accountants returns come in to the offices and we discover they have been prepared incorrectly.

We do have some preparers that are cpa's or are enrolled agents (enrolled by the IRS). You can't judge your bad experiences on one "bad preparer". HR Block has year round support and taxpro's do whatever we can to prepare an accurate return. If there is a mistake we correct them at no charge to the client.

All RAL/RAC products are fully disclosed to the client (they are usually to much in a hurry to get there money) they don't complain about what it costs at the time. For the emerald advance clients you know that your refund would be reduced by the advance you chose to take before the filing season even starts. Read every peice of paper you sign carefully. If your service is poor contact the office manager or the district manager.

They usually resolve issues that are not being handled in the office.

And for all of you out there that think we don't have any education on the tax theory, we are required to take 30 credit hours per season. So don't judge all preparers by one bad experience.

Not only did I read the agreement I signed, it was the Hr Block tax preparer fault. I do know how to do my own taxes but like any other person to lazy (my fault).

The office manager did return my call back, I was in the right. She did not explain that they were going to take the money at that time between. By the way I lost my 19 year old daughter 8 months ago today and I was insulted by the preparer. My daughter was gun down by a drive by shotting and she asked if it was "gang related".

No it was not .

*** OFF YES, not only for tax purposes. :cry :upset

I forget to mention.. H&R Block is a big successful corp not due to it's service or quality of work but for simple luck and right timing..

Before preparers ppl would file taxes by going directly to an IRS office.. giving this was inefficient and time consuming (and so many other reasons that are too long to mention) Congress passed legislation allowing the preparation of taxes by private entities.. which at the time the only one providing this service where the founders of H&R..

(whose names escape me, obviously H(something) and R(something) Block)... good timing..

Clearly you have no understanding how the tax law works.. go to the IRS home page..

and search preparer.. If your tax is done correctly it doesn't matter where u go.. you will get the SAME result.. so there is no way of Legally preparing a return "the way the client needs it" theres only one way the right way..

N yes we offer audit support and if there is a mistake then we do help our clients at no charge (it is called ethics)... N if im correct H&R block (tax part) is only open during tax season.. thus no personal support... N i do believe it's highly unreasonable to expect anyone to work on Christmas eve..

any other time of the year I am available..N no.. the IRS does not correct all returns (thus why some ppl who should be audited don't) The 1040NR was not corrected by the IRS.. and besides if you are depending on the IRS to correct u're return after u paid to have them done correctly then why not just do em yourself?... Some clients after going back not once but 3,4,5,6 times never get their problems resolved by the H&R ppl..

(and if they are inept enought to commit an error so grave once what makes u think they are capable of fixing it?) so they do the wise thing and seek help elsewhere.. As far as the as the Corp comment..

Accountants are not allowed to Incorporate because we can't be bound to stock holders (its more complicated) H&R is a corp who during the rest of the year provides other finacial (not accounting) services.. Second it is illegal for any preparer to charge contingency fees (that is we cannot charge based on the amount of the refund)...

Clearly you are either an employee (which, proving my point, has little understanding of tax law, preparation, and ethics) or just a H&R customer who feels some odd loyalty to this company..

In responds to are so called CPA above, Make note your not talking about A corp. HR office but A franchise office.

I do agree most non-corp. office dont do the returns the way the client needs them done but in a way the $ looks to the tax office. and its not right. But I also would like to add if a return is done wrong by HRB- corp office.

We fix the error for the client at no cost to them and were also here 24/7 365 for them. Let me ask you this. if I called you on Christmas Eve would you awnser your phone or would I get a message saying "are office is closed, please call back" and would the IRS reject a return nr1040 that should be a 1040?

and if you pd $300 to get a return done and it was not right would you go and pay another $150 to someone els or would you go back and make the person fix the return in the first place?

Humm :? someone is talking a little *** humm :p

I agree with the man.. I am an accountant myself and I file taxes.

On a purely professional level H&R is subpar.. fees are ridiculous and the preparation skill of their staff is that of turbo tax. Simply put. U are paying 300 dollars to get u're taxes done by a highschool kid at best with nothing but a few courses in his pocket.

Hire a real tax proffesional a CPA or at least go to a more respectable ACCOUNTANT. H&R shouldn't be allowed to operate the way it currently is.

I've had clients come in with taxes done incorrectly by H&R pay me an additional $150 to get their taxes done correctly. Just an example i had a client his taxes where filed with a 1040 NR instead of a normal 1040 even thought this client has been living in the US since 2000
