H&R BLOCK Redwood Falls MN *AWFUL*

The employees there DO NOT listen when you tell them your concerns & issues. I went in for an emerald advance & due to the tax preparers error we were denied. She told us multiple times that she would fix it. We went back a week later to be pushed off to a later date. One week later, we went back in & she told us it was the bank when we knew all along ( due to her admitting it) that it was her error. So yet another week later we went in & really needed the money. I had to physically go up there because we could not get her to return our phone call. Her excuse was she had the flu & was in the back ... Lamest excuse EVER to not return a phone call. Anyhow, I was so disgusted with this that I called the corporate line & was contacted by an office 80 miles away. The people at this office fixed her error & got us the loan 5 WEEKS LATER! NEXT! We vowed not to go back to this store & that the taxes would be filed at another location. The day of our appointment some things went array. My husband & I swallowed our pride, made a decision that we needed the taxes done, due to him going out of town for work for an extended period of time. We called the office in redwood ( thinking there was another tax preparer) & were greeted very nicely. The receptionist told us that it shouldn't be a problem & that she would call me back in 2 hours. So I wait. At just about 2 hours, the people from the store 80 miles away call my cell phone. Asking how i was etc etc etc. The man then asks me about calling the redwood store. I explain the circumstances to him & he says *QUOTE* "Well, i don't see it being a problem but the employees contacted me to talk to you to make sure that you would do no physical harm or have an attitude with them." SERIOUSLY!!!???!!Let me make something clear! At NO TIME over the period of 5 weeks did I ever cuss at these people or "get an attitude" or do PHYSICAL HARM to anyone or anything. I have never been so appauled at a situation. The man apologized but said he had to make sure. Well lets just say I WILL NEVER EVER EVER GO BACK TO H&R BLOCK EVER AGAIN!

JLMiller81, I totally understand where you are coming from. Unfortunately, there are people out there who don't undertand where we are coming from.

I am also not a family who sits on their ***** all year. I work full time, support 3 children with no child support. I also go to school full time . Unless you are in true financial circumstances, i don't think you can empathize what it is like to need funds...today.

I can only hope that people who comment negatively pray that they are never in our shoes. I hope we all can have a little understanding for our fellow humans. Just in case anyone wants to comment and complain about why I need my funds asap, my son was assaulted by another kid. of course this kids parents are not paying so i have to do it.

he has over 35k in future dental work coming. but he is waiting on a spacer , which is going to be $600. until i get my taxes, i can't get the spacer. so my sons teeth are moving as we speak as i wait for my refund.

I would file a complaint against that store with H and R Corporate.

I found out last year that they are a franchise, so you may have to go to the franchise owner first.

Even if you had been verbally upset, that is a far cry from being physical. You did not deserve that being said to you.

Jessie M Emj

Just to clarify some things for you, We are not some family that sits on their *** all year then gets $10,000 back at tax time. It is not for you to understand.

People do have unexpected things come up, for example , $7,000 in funeral expenses. We pay taxes every year & get little to nothing back at times. If I want to pay the $35 fee then I will pay the fee! We take care of our family with our money, which comes honest, not from a government agencies.

I appreciate your input but you should really not assume ones situation. Oh & it's BANK not BANQUE!

John N Mzy

I fail to understand why you would get a loan on your taxes. This is just plain *** and a waste of money---via fees and interest.

Normal, responsible people don't need to do this. Of course, that's how corporations like H&R make their money---by doing things for people who either cannot or will not do things for themselves.

You would be much farther ahead by buying the turbotax program or going online to Turbotax.com and doing your taxes for free and emailing them to the feds and then getting the refund you so sorely desire in two weeks or less, direct to your banque account. Why would you pay H&R or anyone?????

H & R Block Broken promise

I have used H & R block for many years with no real problems. Normally when my refund is promised, it's been there. Last years was the 1st time i used the 7 - 14 day refund. On the morning of the 7th day, it was there. This year i really needed the refund fast for overdue car repairs. H & R Block said my refund would be no later than the 14th, today is the 17th, NO Refund yet.... All they would say is it's the IRS's fault, and don't really seem to care.... My friend used Turbo tax for free and her refund was direct deposted in 11 day's. So no more H&R block, next year i'll use Turbo Tax.....

All these anonymous postings are from H&R Block employees to cover their *** saying it's the IRS. It's the *** Block employees since they can't offer the loan products they lie how fast you can get your refund so you stay and do the return!

Guest

The dates given to you by your preparer are projected dates that the IRS provides on their Refund Cycle Chart. The IRS has been experiencing major issues with their efiling system.

It is not the preparer's fault that the IRS has not yet sent your refund.

Thousands of people are experiencing a delay. Mine was about a week late.

H&R Block Screwed everything up

These H&R Block Locations are all locate in Louisville, KY I've had H&R Block do my taxes for the last 3 years. About 2 weeks ago I recieved a letter from the IRS stating that I owed them over $200 + penalties because I failed to claim a $1200 cash out from Etrade stocks. Shocked, I pulled out my 2010 tax folder and started flipping thorugh it, where I discovered that no where in my W4 (which is the form filled out by the tax person) is there anything about my stocks. It turns out that the "tax professional" who did my taxes in 2010, who is also the Franchise owner of this particular store (his name is Bob, not sure about his last name) completely missed my 1066 tax form from Etrade Stocks. I took a $400 loss on my stocks before cashing out. I had all information with me including the original proof of purchase and proof that I took a significant loss, all dated. When I recieved my letter, it said it must be returned by January 11th 2012. This particular location does not open its doors until January 5th 2012, not a whole lot of time to take care of this situation. The day after recieving my letter I went to the H&R block on Preston HWY in the Indian Trail shopping center where I found out that "according to them" the Fern Creek location is Franchised owned and the Preston HWY location is Coporate office owned and the two have completely different ways of doing taxes and if there are any problems they must be taken back to the original location. I was also informed that if I did not purchase the extra warranty that I would be charged to correct a mistake that thier employee made. (Which makes absolutely no sense at all, they already charge $41 to do your taxes, why should you have to pay and extra $30 to make sure its done correctly, if thats the case we all have a better chance of doing it ourselves!) I called the Corporate office to get an explanation.Sat on hold for 15minutes and finally got an answer. The person I spoke with was a woman by the name of "Gina," who assured me that there is no difference between Coporate owned stores and Franchise owned stores and that the person who made that statement to me was mistaken. She then proceeded to set up an appointment for me at the Hikes Lane (Bardstown Square) location. When it came time for my appointment I made the trip across town to this particular location where I discovered that the Door was locked and all the lights were off. I stuck around for about 30 minutes then went home. I called the corporate office again. 20 minutes of elevator music later and this time I talked to someone named "Chris" who informed me that this particular location does not open until January 5th 2012 as well and that there is no one named "Gina" that works at the Corporate Office. I have proof that I was scheduled for this appoinment because they sent me a confirmation email. So please, save yourself the headache and trouble, do not use H&R block! They obviously don't have a clue, and do you really want people like this handling critical information like your taxes??

They do! they hire people who dont know a *** thing, said I didnt have to pay any taxes but somehow ended up owning them a few $$? if I owe them why they didnt tell me that in the first place?

Guest

Sounds like you forgot to hand your basis information over to the person who prepared your taxes. Without that information on the return the IRS is going to treat the entire stock sale as a gain. A gain that is all taxable income. Oops on you for that part.

Now for the oops on the preparer, if indeed you gave the E-trade information to them. They should have either a. put in the amounts of your basis or b. asked you for the basis. Since they should have also informed you of exactly what I said in the first paragraph.

Problem is it sounds like you didn't even bother to provide that information since the IRS sent you one of their lovely letters with a bill. How many letters have you received from them anyways? Usually it takes a third letter before they start giving you a hard date with payment must be made by. Before that they give you letters asking for clarification, if you dispute the charges, etc...

So I'm going with the Oops in this situation on you, not your preparer.

On a friendly note, since today is now the 14th, hopefully you have this situation rectified and have sent a letter or fax to the IRS disputing the charges. With a correct Schedule D showing the basis, purchase date, sale price and sales date.

With (400) loss, you MAY even be entitled to some additional monies that you would need to file a 1040x along with the Schedule D and mail in.

Don't Oops in the future. After all this is your financial situation and your money. You knew you had the stock transaction and as soon as you did not see it on the return, you should have said something.

Guest

thanks user many clients blame the preparer when it is their fault for not giving the right informtion. spend little extra for little more service.next time

Guest

You have your forms all mixed up... a W4 is allowance and witholding certificate that is turned in to your employer...

a 1066 tax form doesn't even exist!! .... and as a preparer, I will tell you that Etrade has the worst way of reporting their brokerage records, they don't even give you the basis, or date of purchase of the stocks. This is very common for the form Schedule D to not be filled out if the client doesn't point it out....

clients should have their tax forms ready, we are humans & can't guess on what you do, or don't have.

On a good note, go to an h&r block (if you can to the same one) tell them you need a Schedule D completed, take all of your etrade documents & the basis and purchase dates (call etrade for this info). No amendment needed, you just need the Schedule D.... look at the letter the IRS sent you and there should be a fax # around the top right corner, and fax it over. They will contact you in a couple of weeks, where they will recalculate your tax due & if you had a loss, then you might even be looking at a refund!!

best of luck. If I lived/worked where you do, I would be glad to help you. Don't be mad at h&r block, the company's great, and the added warranty is to protect you from a mistake the preparer makes, and to assist you if you get audited ... $35 for it, think about it this way...

you have a spare tire, you don't know when you will need it, but it's there. It is less than a dollar a day.

H&R Block is terrible! They made a "huge" mistake on our taxes which had us to pay $2800 and we had them to go over our return again which they said was correct, however the IRS sent us a letter stating that we owed an additional $1080 more because they did not enter my deceased father's social security benefits correctly! We will never go back.

Perhaps you should read what you are signing.

And you would have to talk to the bank, H&R Block Bank I think its called, its actually separate from the tax offices.

A non-needed form was filed & charged.

WARNING: NO NOT USE H&R BLOCK. It's a rip-off company that over-charges for tax preparation. They will file un-needed form just to charge you for it. My ex-College son is being charged $350 fee for preparing his taxes due to having to file his College expenses. That is just wrong. I told him to stop the preparation & go to our CPA that only charges $150.00. A license CPA is more trustworthy than H&R BLOCK. We even had alot of Farm,Work & Medical expenses to file and still was only charged $150.00.

H & R Block

My taxes were completed on February 4th, 2012. I completed the 7 to 10 day plan with direct deposit.

I was told before I left the office that my tax return was accepted and to expect my direct deposit on February 21, 2012. When February 21, 2012 arrived NO DIRECT DEPOSIT!!I called H & R Block to speak with my tax preparer and was told that it was not their fault but the IRS. My tax preparer told me that my money would be deposited by the weekend. Another lie because I logged onto Where's My Refund and the date states May 6!!

H & R Block charges a tax prep fee of over $300 for the 7-10 day option. The next morning I spoke with the office manager who was very rude. She too stated that it was not H &R Blocks fault. I inquired about a discount fee but was told that the $300 plus dollars was the tax preparation fee.

I have been a long time customer of H &R Block but they have lost my business and I will not recommend them to anyone.

I do not appreciate paying for a service and not receiving it. H & R Block doesn't guarantee anything!!!

Why would anyone go to such a commercial tax place for PERSONAL income tax preparation? Because of the big name? Alot of the preparers just got out of a 60 hour tax course.

Guest

This year the IRS put in to place a new efile system that was suppose to make the processing of tax returns faster, the problem is, is that their new computer system is only working part of the timeand has crashed a few times this tax season, which has delayed refunds being issued on time for many many many people, there have been a few people who have received their refunds when IRS said they would, they happened to file at the perfect time when IRS computers worked correctly, It has been announced on the news and on IRS website the issues they are having this year, and YES it is IRS's fault and NOT the fault of any tax preparation company. It would be a good idea to get your facts straight.

I often wonder how some people get through life without ever figuring out how it works. The real problem is, that you just can't fix ***.

Guest

You did receive the service you paid for. H&R Block is in the business of preparing and E Filing your return for you.

H&R Block nor any other tax prep co can guarantee when or if the IRS issues your refund, the IRS Puts out a refund cycle chart at the beginning of tax season for the expected date of refunds according to the date the return is accepted by the IRS, sometimes that time frame is not met by the IRS, that is the fault of the IRS and not H& Blockr any other co. Also if you did not want to pay the fees out of your pocket that day for the prepreation and filing of your return then you paid an additional service charge for having your fees withheld from your anticipated refund, NOT to have your refund guaranteed by a certin date.

Stop blaiming the company for what is your ignorance about how the real world works, if you do not want a tax prepreation company to prepare and file your return, which any company will charge for their service then do your taxes yourself.

I do not understand why people think they do not have to pay for a service they seek out. Mind boggling.

It's not the IRS's fault, H & R Block are misleading their customers by giving false information. I was to receive my money by February 14 and they've blamed the IRS as well ad it's not true.

The outcome of my frustation, I went inside of the H&R Block Office and demanded they return my original W-2 form.

I'll be damned if I let H & R Block charge me $300 for something I can do myself. I did my taxes online for free and I'll receive my money by March 7th.

H&R BLOCK STINKS DONT GO THERE

My Husband and I went to H&R block as our account is sick and out of the office for months… The preparation was OK but the fee they charged us was out of site… Normally we pay in the average of 250 or less this place charged us 488.00 I was floored there is no way it takes that amount of money to have services done. It took maybe a little over an hour for the tax person to complete.Their excuse was I needed separate form s which I never had before … BS I'm pissed and will never go back ever.

Scammed at HRBlock

Went in on 2/21 to inquire how much filing Fed/State would cost--was told 99.00. I also asked about rolling fee into my refund and was told that was included. No fee schedule was handed to me. I made the appt. on 2/25 I went in for my apt and the fees were 99plus Fed and 49 plus State. All said and done, it was almost 200.00. I refused to pay that amount. Have spoken to Corporate twice and have complaint filed. I do have my W2's and forms. I was willing to pay the 99.00 up front. I kept getting told to come in the office to get it fixed--go in office (2/26 and 2/27) and I just get the run around. They couldn't provide me anything in writing saying I didn't owe the money as the price quoted was not accurate. When I insisted that I get something in writing, the manager was typing that I refused to pay the price once service was rendered. I asked her to call Corporate right then as this was the 3rd phone call/second visit in two days and nothing was resolved. Office Mgr refused to call Corporate. So, I called them on my cell. When I told Corporate that she wanted them to call her--they asked why she didn't call-I told them she refused. Office manager became mad 'I'm done' and stood over me as I talked to Corporate (She moved back when I asked her if she wanted me to go leave. HR Block refered it to the "Escalation Dept' that will call me back within 3-5 days. I left with noting in writing but a verbal promise that my 'bill' would go away in April. I filed a complaint with BBB. Did I meantion the ads online and on the tv was free federal until 2/28??

Unfortunatly they don't tell you that only the 1040ez is free. You are never obligated to pay HR Block for your return if you are not satisfied.

You can take your documents and leave. Unless you already had Block file them. I was wondering if the Excalation Dept contacted you within the 3 to 5 days.

Just wondering. I also filed a complaint with them.

She told me because my taxes of the type o taxes I needed done. I spend 2 1/2 hours with a client and don't never make close to that. What a ripe off!!! She even sign me up for the wrong payment plan. I am only in my 20's trying to make it self employed. She never once explained costs for her service and a explanation in full breakdown why it cost so much. H&R BLOCK is a scam. Learned y lesson I will return to a private tax person

Tax Professionals that are not Professional

I usually do my taxes myselft with HR Block software, but this year I had some IRA disbursements and rollovers and I was not sure how to record that on my taxes. I had my taxes completed by a very nice man in the Endicott, NY office. After paying 340. for my taxes, which is outrageous, I went home and reviewed them again. I didn't feel that the IRA rollover was recorded properly, so I returned to the office to speak to the man that had completed my taxes. He was busy with a client, so a woman named Michele offered to help me. I explained what my question was, and she raised her voice and was very condescending to me, and kept repeating that is was done correctly and I didn't know what I was talking about. She acted like I was wrong for even questioning what was filed. She was making such a scene that the man who had filed my taxes, came running up front to see what the problem was. I explained to him that I wasn't trying to say he was wrong, I just wanted to double check that this rollover was recorcded properly. The woman ,Michele, who I think was the office manager, kept insisting it was done correctly and wouldn't even listen to me. She kept talking over me. She was RUDE! I was so embarrassed, because by now everyone in the office heard what was going on...I can't believe you have people working for you that treat your clients that way. By the way, I was correct for questioning it, and an amended return is going to be filed. This woman does not have the knowledge, or the professionalism needed to work as a tax professional.

Folks, the manager at the H&R Block in Binghamton was fired, and so was Heather Sweet.

Sweet is most likely going to Federal Prison for having filed many, many, many false returns to help family and friends receive illicit and illegal refunds from the US Treasury.

If Sweet did your taxes...I would suggest that you make sure that they were done right, and if you were one of her scamming friends, you might want to go ahead and turn yourself in to the IRS...they are on the warpath.

H&R Blockheads waste time & money

I downloaded a state program to add to my existing H&R Blockhead program, but it wouldn't work. I called "customer service" and after a half hour of trying, the *** put me on hold for 15 minutes until their offices closed. At closing time, he disconnected me. I got on the chat help and after another 3-plus hours of frustration, they found out that the reason it wouldn't download is because I had just purchased the software the payment hadn't cleared yet. What H&R blockheads! Maybe they should teach their reps to check things like that. I'm going back to TurboTax after this.

H&R Block no longer has "rapid refunds." The turn-around time with the IRS is the same at Block as if you filed your return yourself on-line.....7-15 days, depending upon when you transmit it to the IRS. Once the return leaves Block, it's up the IRS as to when your return will be funded. Block transmits a return when Block is paid for the return. That means the minute the cashier rings the sale, it's an automatic function of the payment program. If you pay with a bank product, ie. a RAC, the return goes to the IRS the minute the tax preparer hits the print key.

Days of "rapid refunds" from Block are over. Block's bank regulators, the FDIC people, denied Block permission to make loans based on refunds last year.

If your refund is 'hung-up', it's because the IRS has thier fingers on it for some reason or other. Keep in mind that a government that can give you EITC can take it away too, and they don't have to explain why!

Guest

filed 01/14, told it would be 01/25 or before and here it is 02/05 and nothing! When I call all I get are rude employees with ridiculous excuses , all of which they blame on the IRS, not themselves.

Guest

not to call their office because they don't know. So why the h*** do they give you a date if they do not know?

Now here it is , Feb. 5th and I still do not have my much needed money. I checked the IRS website and it says my money will be deposited on the 6th. So why am I paying H&R block for a refund ANTICIPATION check?

I will NEVER use them again and I will tell everyone I know not to do business with them.

I wish I had just efiled myself for free instead of paying those *** 300 to get my money later than I would have if I had filed for free. What a rip off and the worst customer service I have ever encountered.

Call the IRS, H&R Block has nothing to do with how long it takes. They send off the paperwork to the IRS within 10 minutes of you clicking ok.

GL with calling the IRS btw.

People H&R Block is not the same as it was years ago!!!! They no longer give u the money early...they have to wait til IRS pays them they pay u!!!! And they have raised their prices over the years...it is no longer reasonable to go to them for simple forms or if u only have dependents!!!!! I paid 315 for them to do 1040 wit 3 dependents which any1 could have done themselves. Every city or community has help for those who can not. THIS YEAR IT IS TAKING WAY LONGER DUE TO IRS CHANGES!!!! BOUT 2-3 WEEKS EFILE on Emerald card!!!!!!! IM CURRENTLY ON MY 16TH DAY before the weekend now....IRS says FEB 3rd!!! FILED AT HR BLOCK ON JAN 13th!!! HR block will not disclose this with u so b prepared to wait longer than normal!!!!$315 for less than a hours time is ridiculous and ur not receiving the money any earlier than if u efile urself! Turbo Tax is the way to go...notice how HR Block now have the home edition cuz they know their offices will b closing!!! DO NOT USE HR BLOCK customer for many years and im fed up!!!! I have used H&R Block for years. I itemize with a mortgage.

Last year I was charged 300.00 for preparing my tax forms. I don't have a lot to itemize other than my mortgage. To me that is a very excessive fee. I called this year to get an estimate and was given a range of $119.

to $260. (Quite a range spread) I told them what I was charged last year and they said they charge more if you have had unemployment, which I did. No reason given for why they charge more if you had unemployment. I'm done with H&R Block.

I'll learn to do them myself.

It's absurd to pay a $300. fee for 15 to 20 minutes work.

First off, I am single with no dependents, one w2, and I only claim interest from my mortgage and one student loan. Last year I went and it cost me ~$175.00 for everything.

This year nothing changed and it was $243.00. Won't be going there anymore.

;) Forgot to specify that the $250.00 was a payout to H & R Block for the 1099 form. Not to mention that for the $118.00 I received from my laughable retirement fund, I paid the IRS $12.00.

I got screwed this year. I usually go to H & R Block because they seem like they know what they are doing.

Well, I'm nowhere near 59 years old and I received an unauthorized payout from my "retirement" fund from a company I used to work for. That made my total cost come out to be nearly $250.00. I do not own a house. I do not have children.

I am not married. And I'm poor.

This is highway robbery and I don't care how long it takes, I will learn to do my own taxes to maximize my own profit. WAY OVERPRICED to watch someone look at forms and punch in numbers.

Wow, good to know, I was thinking about doing my own taxes this year, and after reading so many negative reviews, I think it might be the best bet.
