H&R Block advertises that it will file your simple federal taxes for free. And, apparently you have to file both your federal and your state with them. What they do not tell you is that depending on your state, it can cost you about $50 to file your state taxes. Then...

Hr Block in Willimantic, Connecticut - Over charged

Have your taxes done by a private tax preparer. While my tax man was completing my tax forms, he called HR Block and asked for an estimate on how much someone would have to pay for completion of the forms he was telling them (the forms he filled out for me). HR Block quoted over DOUBLE the amount this tax preparer charged me. DO NOT go to HR Block. They overcharge! HR Block is the OLD way of doing taxes. Look at other means of this service (outside tax preparers/software programs). You sit with a preparer and there is no privacy between cubicles.

HR block

My father used Hr Block as this is his first year getting disability. He also gets retirement. The lady charged my dad 425 dollars to file his taxes then told him after his fees his return was 400 dollars. We thought ok thats fine. We were having someone else prepare his taxes last year who had his previous tax return they told us "did you know HR Block used your social security as income? We were astonished. After doing an amended form my dad got back an extra 1600 dollars. I do not recommend Jill at Hot Springs, South Dakota. After we called and told her this she said, your filing fee was refundable but you are 2 days to late for the refund.
