Wasted My Time

I used H and R Block because Turbo Tax wanted to charge me for the same service and with H&R it was free. Service was free and OK, nothing special, I would not go out of my way to use it again , though only if it was free. When it came time to print the taxes for my records this is where they wasted my time. It printed 12 pages of which 8 were nonsense and not needed at all and found their way into my recyling bin. And the non nonsense pages are not numbered. Why can't a tax preparation company number the tax pages?

Page numbers can be seen in the pdf viewer prior to printing so that one can choose if they want to print the full document or not. As for printing with page numbers, some pages will and some will not, this is dependent on the electronic version of the forms that are approved by the IRS.

We apologize for any inconvenience. If there's anything we can do to assist, please contact us at 1-80*-***-****, option 2.

We'd be happy to assist. Regards, Nicholas

HR BLOCK: I was charged $285 for 5 forms

%&^# HR BLOCK. I went to the one on Monroe Ave in Rochester, NY. I will NEVER go back there again. I was completely ripped off and the guy was so shady. He kept looking at me and talking to me like I was an ***, giving me that fake smile and using *** analogies. My blood starts boiling every time I start to think about it. What's more, he said at the beginning that none of my information would be shared with anyone. Later, he started telling me a story about someone who called him on the phone while we were in our meeting (he KEPT answering the phone and doing other things while I just sat there and waited)... how he filed his taxes and claimed a child who wasn't his and was having to re-file and didn't want to do it, etc.... telling me all this personal information. NOT OKAY.

Why would someone even go there in the first place..I thought it was common knowledge that most those people are following step by step instructions. Why not go to an accountant who will get the bang for your buck if your going to spend that much?

I don't feel sorry for you.

and there is no need to worry about warning people. I think anyone with common sense would choose to go elsewhere

Guest

I was charged $300 and they told me to pay $600 to the state, which I did. Then I found out I didn't owe.

So I asked them to review it and they told me to file taxes from another country (had nothing to do with getting my money back from the state!)...so now it's up to me to get back the money that I didn't owe the state.

They are useless. I should have done my own taxes!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE. HERE'S SOME FOR YOU: IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE RUDE, AT LEAST CHECK YOUR GRAMMAR AND SPELLING TO KEEP YOURSELF FROM LOOKING LIKE AN ***.

You are also venting on the internet. Get a life. I contacted HR Block about the issue and my post was to let others know what happened. OF COURSE I was not aware that I could leave at the point where he had already done my taxes; do you really think that *** was going to tell me that?

But thank you SO much for being SO kind as to politely inform me of that. It is also NOT my job to stop someone mid-sentence and tell them they are violating their confidentiality regulations.

Anyway, I'm not wasting any more time on this. Thank you so much for your ever-so-helpful input.

1. YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO PAY AND ACCEPT H&R TO FILE YOUR TAXES, WHEN YOU PAID THEM $285, YOU AUTHORIZE FOR THEM TO FILE ON YOUR BEHALF, SO THAT WAS COMPLETELY ON YOU. AGAIN, IF THEY CHARGE TO MUCH, DON'T PAY THEM.

2. IF YOU DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE A PERSONAL CONVO WITH THE AGENT, JUST TELL HIM, I'M PRETTY SURE HE WASN'T GOING TO FLIP OUT BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO TALK TO HIM.(I'M 100% SURE AT THE TIME THAT YOU WERE FULLY ENGAGED IN THE CONVERSATION AND POSSIBLY EGGING IT ON.)

3. IF HE KEEPS ANSWER HIS PHONE AND MAKING YOU WAIT, DO 1 OR 2 THINGS, LEAVE WHICH WOULD HAVE SENT A STRONG MESSAGE, OR RETURN THE FAVOR, WHEN HE'S DONE WITH HIS CONVERSATION, GET ON YOUR PHONE AND MAKE HIM WAIT.

4. YOUR A GROWN MAN/WOMAN, ACT LIKE ONE AND QUIT WINNING TO FACELESS PEOPLE, HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS AND LET THE AGENT KNOW HOW YOU FEEL DIRECTLY INSTEAD OF COWERING OUT YOUR FEELINGS OVER THE INTERNET.

H & R Block charged $96.00 for a simple tax service

My daughter went to H & R Block to have her taxes done. She did the State Tax online, but went to an office to have the Federal Tax done. After it was completed the lady told her it cost $96.00 !! She only made $18K last year and they can use a simple form, there is nothing complicated here. How can they charge so much and they don't tell you in the beginning what it will cost, only afterwards. No one in our family will ever use H & R Block again...and we will tell everyone we know too.

H/R block, avoid if you can. I had my taxes done and they ripped me off. They are dishonest and I will never never go back to them.

Guest

It's actually not a percentage, as Well had said. For some reason, your daughter's return became a 1040A instead of the 1040EZ simple form. You'd have to go back in with your return to see exactly why.

Guest

I go to H&R Block every year, let them do my taxes(Watch closely to what their doing) and at the end, deny their fee. Go home immediately after-wards and do it my self and match my returns with what H&R Block's figures were, as long as they match, I'm good.

Been doing it for about 5 years now.

P.S.... Don't go back to the same H&R office, switch it up each year.

Guest

Block does not charge a percentage like other companies do. And you are never under an obligation to pay if you are dissatisfied with either the price or the service

Guest

If it was a "simple tax service", maybe it was simple enough for your daughter to do it herself.

John N Mzy

Probably about time your little dearie learns how to do her own federal return on her own. She can do it online at places like TurboTax.

Guest

they dont know how much the fee is until they see how much you get back duh its a percentage

H&R Block Ripped me off!!!

Updated by user Mar 29, 2011

I was charged $175.00 instead of $39.95!

Original review Mar 29, 2011
"Is this your first time filing taxes?" "yes it is" "...you will remember this for the rest of your life!" I sure will...I was ripped off!!! I'm a full-time student with a part time job, so today was my only day to get out and get my taxes done. I went to H&R Block today to have my taxes filed for the first time. I had called previously to see how much they charge for filing taxes. I was told $39.95. However, after the woman was done helping me, I was charged $39.95. Prior to getting started, I asked if they would take the fee out of my refund I was told that they would charge me $39.95 just to do so! It took the woman an hour to do my taxes with 95% of the time was spent talking about H&R Block & certain programs they offer. Also, just because I had jury duty earlier this year and received a pay to bearer check of $10.00, I had to pay taxes on that $10.00! I will not be going back to them next year nor will I refer them to anybody else! Big Mistake choosing them!!

A correction on what I said earlier: the $10, which is taxable income, would need to be reported on line 21 of form 1040 as misc. income.

This would prevent it from being a 1040ez. It is unfair, but this one if the fault of states for not paying juries as w2.

Guest

I am surprised your return was not a 1040ez (less expensive, possibly free) but I am not looking at it to tell.

Having your tax preparation fees withheld generates a fee ($33 rounded), charged by the bank that processes your refund. This should have been explained. Personally I try to talk every single client OUT of this option!

One hour is far too long for a tax pro to take for 1 w2. You need a seconded opinion on your taxes, either ask for someone different, or go to another office. One w2 without education credits (assuming you are a dependent) would take me about 20 minutes to complete if that.

The $10 is taxable income. Not reporting it could generate an IRS letter as well as penalties (of a lot more then $1-2 in tax).

Guest

You're a "student" of what? Do your own taxes.

It's not that complicated and H&R Block rips off EVERYONE; most "tax service" organizations do! And people like you will keep them in business for a long time.

Edit: I was charged $175.00 instead of $39.95.

H&R Block charged $297.50 for 8 forms

The "Senior" accountant at H&R Block charged me $297.50 for nine forms. I owed no money to IRS nor did I have a refund due as I had not earned enough this year. She answered the phone and made appointments while I was there less than an hour. I did not realize until I returned home that there were only 9 forms invloved. I telephoned her and requested a breakdown of the charges. She said does not "think" she can print out a break down of charges. Any thoughts about what I can do? I am 76 years old.

@ Redcat Your tax professional should always be able to explain, show and print out all the fees associated with your tax return. Even though you may not have owed anything to the IRS or state revenue board, you may have a filing requirement that must be met by filing your tax return. You can get a copy of the fees, ask for an itemized bill. This can be found on the last page when they pull up to view your return.

@Last Time I'm going See above about getting an itemized bill. No preparer should receive any money from the preparation directly. Employees are paid by Block and receive their compensation bonus at the end of the year. Additionally you stated you donate to charity and your "family" was jipped. In order to take Itemized Deductions you have to exceed the Standard Deduction, i.e. $11,400 for a married family. A lot of people think they are deducting their donations when they take the Standard Deduction. You can ask the preparer to review the difference. The software will select the most beneficial one.

@ J Without knowing what forms or complexity, I can not speak to assist you. You can get an itemized bill, see above.

@ Lojo You are NEVER under any obligation to pay for your tax return services. You have the option to take your tax return information PERIOD $89.00 is for the Federal and State EZ Forms. Interest on your home would mean you use the long form 1040; therefore your return would start out at $119 and go up based on complexity.

Guest

My family was completely jipped. They had to pay nearly 500 dollars, and the amount reflected on the receipt was approximately 150 dollars less. The reasoning that was given was the following: the other part of the fee is directly to the person who helped "prepare" the forms. wtf???

Not only will I not go there any longer, but I will make sure that no one else does. Their tax rep wouldn't even make the necessary donation and gas deductions my parents do EVERY YEAR WITHOUT RISK OF AUDIT. My family donates thousands of dollars to charities, and we have the receipts and proper documentation to prove it. They don't make much, but they feel that generosity is something that should be done all the time--regardless of the circumstance.

HRBlock--you've officially lost my families business, as well as many of my friends and their families business.

Guest

I went to H&R Block (On Camden Ave , San Jose , CA). They charged me $140 for Fed and State forms, no other incomes or donations.

They couldn't even give me a break down of my $140 !!

The girl at the front desk was clueless and rude.

After 20 years with H&R , time for me to move on.

Guest

I was charged $227.50 after being told it would cost $89 on the phone. All I have is a W-2 and the interest on my home and a couple small donations.

They never told me how much it would cost until after they efiled it. Then gave me a bill for $227.50. When I told them they quoted me $89 on the phone, their response was, Oh we meant the bill STARTS at $89. I was furious.

I am telling everyone I know and even don't know to never go to H&R Block. They take advantage of you.

I will be getting my taxes double checked also this year. :(

Guest

I work for H R Block .She should be able

to go into her billing screen and print out an itemized invoice. Also, if you are

legally not required to file a return because your income is below the Filing

Requirement levels, the fee may be

overridden on the billing screen with a

'Gross Income below filing threshold' and

should drop the fee substantially (about

$41 for a federal return). One thing to note is that if you sold stocks during the year, you may have to income subject to tax, but usually still need to report

all the sales and basis to determine the

profit or loss. This can only be done on

a 1040 aned Schedule D and could easily

be over $200. Talk to the office manager

for an explanation. Hope this helps.

They took over 600 bucks and dont have any records of it. I called customer service and Bitched them out and all they did is give us a *** run around. talked to five different people and it still wasnt resolved. I printed our statements and everything so when my Hearing is here Im going fight this one and file a lawsuit. Someone needs to stop them from taking money from people its wrong and I also am going to tell every one I know not to use HR Block in the future. its ***!!!!!!!

I don't care how you spell it, the crime is the same.(assuming one has been committed)As in my case; I checked my balance before I left my home on a shopping trip at Walmart. My balance was around 1000.

At the checkout my card was declined-not wanting to give up my needed items, i went directly to the atm inside walmart and attempted to withdraw 280; again the transaction was declined. I immeadiately called the number on the back of the Emerald card, the transactions indicated both "attempts to purchase" one at the checkout, and one minutes later at the instore atm, as balance deducted in the amounts and at the times i had been declined.I know for sure because I will never forget the checkout stand was #17 at the Moses Lake, wa. Walmart. I walked across the street to the 76 gas station and purchased a pack of cigarettes just fine-but my balance was 280.00 not the 890.00 I had left my house with only hours before.

Since then, there have been numerous attempts to apease me with a number to call or he did, she did games between the "bank" and H&R Block, personally i believe they are one in the same, affiliated through corprate sister companies.

I did not owe anyone, If I had they would have told me where my money went, and why it will not return...but no all I get is a big fat run a round and now more than a year and 15+ phone explinations later--I might as well have saved myself the trouble and just put the bank and h&r on a two way and butted the *** out of the finger pointing and jack jawing about the trueth of the matter, fact is fact and I want my g-damned money back! Where else can I turn to get to address this issue and find my money-$570.00 is rent for a month where I come from.

Guest

Sounds like you may have owed an Emerald Advance!!!! That is where you get an advance on your refund around christmas time.

Then, you agree to pay it back by February 15th. The only way money can be removed from the account after it has been deposited is 1. by you or someone with your PIN.

2. When you owe the money for services.

John N Mzy

I am at a loss as to exactly what the complaint is all about. Who stole money from his account?

The banque or H&R Block?

How so? If it is that easy to steal from someone's account, I need to get into a new line of skullduggery.

H&R Block - Do not use them!!!

I used H&R Block's online filing service for its convenience and privacy. Now its online software didn't add all my GA state credit up in the total amount of refunds and came up an error.

So the over the phone customer rep advised me to mail state returns in. There was no instruction of I should print out and which document I should mail together with the form. Also the print out I supposed to mail to my state contains wrong refunds amount because its software didn't add my home buyer credit into the total!! So I made several calls to their service and technical department, still no corrective action.

Finally I called to ask for refund on my state tax service fee. The supervisor said he can't do anything because the software has done my state return. Who should pay for the a service providing erroneous calculation. I am disputing the fee with my CC company.

In short H&R Block's online service gave me a 1+1=1 and came out to say its correct and I should pay for it since I used it.

This should be a warning for those even thinking about H&R Block.

James Dunn,

Go do a research for Georgia first time buyer credit. Then you can comment about other's thread.

Guest

The First Time Homebuyers Credit is a federal refundable credit, it has nothing to do with the states. It will not show up on the state return.

If you take your paperwork to a local H&R Block office, they will help you get your paperwork together. As long as they don't actually change the return, they won't charge you anything.

Guest

This was pretty much my experience this year with H&R Block. It seemed like any complaint or question I have is met with a yawn and a slow blink.

I paid for far more than I got and will never get a dime back. Or even a polite "thank you" for the screw.

H & R Block: Never been treated so terribly

I went to H&R Block today to have my taxes done. The service was friendly and seemed professional. When it came time to file my taxes after they had been done I was asked to sign a piece of paper to file the taxes. Before I signed I asked if there were any fees if so what were they. I was told my fees were $340 after being given a first time user discount. I asked her what the fees were for and she gave me a laundry list of the fees and their reasoning. After explaining to the woman that I did not have that kind of money and could not afford to have that kind of money to come out of my taxes she continued to pressure me to filing because I didn't know how to do my own taxes and I've taken up her time(she was with me for a total of 10 minutes) and it would be rude not to file. It made me very uncomfortable and I had to insist that she not file them because that was a large amount of money for me and I had to at least mull over the decision before I made that large of a purchase for my taxes. I told her I had no issue paying for the $29 dollar consultation fee that was posted on the wall that said if I didn't file I had to pay the fee. She then grabbed my cash and led me up to the front of the busy office where she started to hollar to the lady at the front desk that I needed change because I wasn't filing and then started laughing to herself that she was sick of people wasting her time. I turned to her and told her that I was sorry if she felt I wasted her time but that in this economy especially in Michigan I would hope she would understand that $340 is a lot for a single mother of two to be shelling out for anything. She turned and stormed off shaking her head. I have never felt so embarassed in my entire life and I didn't do anything wrong. The sign clearly states that you have the option to not file and I chose that option and made no issue of paying the fee. I feel I was treated very unfairly. And I find the fees a bit outrageous considering my parents taxes are much more complicated than mine and they pay their accountant less than $300 to prepare theirs. I hope others shop around before they commit to any tax company, not just H&R block and truly make sure you're getting the best deal possible.

I have always been screwed over by H & R Block. Biggest scammers in the tax world.

They have messed up my return with wrong digits one year, told me I had to pay thousands (went to another place that said I get $1500 back), and charged outrageous fees. It baffles me that someone doesn't shut these scammers down.

Several years ago I went to H&R Block. The tax preparer told me that I could not claim my homeowners taxes or anything to do with my home and I did not need to claim investments.

I only got $150 back after making 45k that year and that $150 went to the fees for preparing the forms.

A year later I was audited and H&R Block said that they would redo my taxes, but I would have to pay because it wasn't their fault. I paid another $200 to have my fathers accountant redo my taxes and I ended up getting $1800 back.

HnR Block charged me to delay my tax refund.

I had my taxes done at HnR Block and they recommended the RAC as the fastest way to receive my money. I went on the IRS website this morning and discovered that HnR Block has received my tax return, but I will not receive their "rapid anticipation loan" (my late refund minus their huge fee) for 4 more days.

It is not rapid, it is not in anticipation of anything since they have received MY money already, and it is not a loan. I payed them 400 bucks to delay my refund by an additional 4 days. All the customer service worker could say was "sorry" and "I understand your anger". I will never go there again.

I am so mad I would like to picket in front of their local branch. Hate em.

Does anyone really think hrb controls when you get your money? If you do, you're not very informed. The IRS controls WHEN you get your money and my tax pro showed me the chart of when to "expect" my refund - the chart MADE by the IRS.

Can't remember my password for the life of me, but this is my original rant. I've used turbo tax the past two years, and cannot imagine why on earth anyone would continue using H&R Block.

In response to ThinkAboutIt, the year in question I had gone to the IRS site and entered my social to discover the IRS had released my tax return. H&R Block had csshed my tax return, and were making me wait for them to cut me a check which they charged an arm and a leg for. Had I simply gone through Turbo Tax that year I would have had my money in hand and not had to pay for a "loan" which was no loan at all.

Basically I gave H&R Block my money, and they charged me a loan fee after they already had my refund in their possession. I hear about a half a million people got screwed by them this year...I guess that's a half million more people who will do their taxes online themselves and realize how badly they've been taken for all the years they used H&R Block.

Guest

WE had the same problem. Paid to have our return delayed.

(RAC program)We were told that the date the money would be in OUR bank in OUR hands was the 25th of February due to the tax laws being updated ( agree). Called the IRS, taxes had been done and sent out, should hav ethem the 25th. Called HR B, they had no record of us. The person we talked to at the HRB office we had them done at was basically useless...the usual sorry, what do you want us to do about it.

She ended up calling and tracking our money down..IN HRBs bank account!! We recieved an email a few hours later that our money was being transfered that day ( yesterday) and it may be 4-5 days before we have access to it.

WTF!!! I will never use them again...after 10 years...you get one chance, if they can't live up to thier end of the agreement, I wont give them the opportunity to screw me twice.

Guest

Hey Your Mistake, I filed on the 6Feb and had to wait for the 14th for it to be submitted. Fed refund was xferred to my account on the 18th. I was not told anything, but it seems 3 - 5 days is possible.

Guest

I done my taxes on january 25th a h&r pro told me that I would recieve my check on the 4th of febuary. as of today febuary the 16th I have still not recieved it.

I have been to the irs web site they say that h&r has had my money since the 11th and if I have not recieved my money by today I should call H&R block. I called to day and they told me that they have still not recieved it. how could the goverment know where my money is at and H&R not.

I have been letting h&r do my taxes since 1993 and they have alaways been rather reliable until now. after this year this will be my last year with them.

Guest

Melaniebradley:

Did the tax pro at H&R say you were getting a RAL? Because H&R Block doesn't DO RAL's anymore.

They had a loan product that ended Jan. 14th and that was it. Other than that, the RAC is always going to be 8-15 days standard because of IRS processing.

If you did your tax service AFTER Jan. 15th, then the person you worked with was either high, not coherent, or totally inept.

Guest

To angry person:

Whoever told you that you can get your refund in 3-5 days is an oddball.

NO ONE (not even JH or Liberty unless it is a high fee partial loan) can get a refund to you in that short of time. The IRS doesn't allow that time frame. It is ALWAYS 8-15 days.

Guest

Called HR Block and asked where my refund is and why it is still not on my card when they said it would be there by February 4th. They told me that the IRS won't release it and it's up to them.

Do not fall for the 5-15 days.

I was told by IRS it will now be 4-6 weeks before I see my money because HR Block *** up my return. BEWARE.

:( same problem i was told 3 to 5 working days before i can get my money, even though they have my money already. this is the first time and last time i use h&r *** e s..

H&R Block employees in AL = uneducated ***

Went to the H&R Block in Bel Air Mall. Messed up our return, not once, but twice. Still trying to correct their error. Tax Manager was clueless. Others that have filed there are surely not getting their max refund and being made to pay more than they owe. Just talke to the Alabama Dept of Revenue to find out ow to fix this. Called HR Block and was refused help over the phone. This is the second year in a row that this particular H and R Block screwed up. We paid $450 to file with them and we have ad to figure out how to correct it twice(this year)- no refund for the service has been offered. What a bunh of uneducated ***

Telling you that you owe when you dont

My husband is a truck driver and 09 h and r block said we owe fed, 169 dollars and state 99 dollars. cost us 154.oo to hear this. We went and had them redone this year and come to find out we were supose rto get back 1021 dollars from federal and 652 from state. cost me 60 dollars to get them done. I complained to the office i went to and they want to give me a cupond to come back next year free. Like that will happen. Their motto is you got people.. for what to cost you money and not be there to do anything about anything. i have enough people like that i dont have to pay for.

Charged a small fortune

I took my senior mother to H&R Block to have her taxes done. She has gone here for the past couple of years. Last year she was charged about $125 which I thought was too high. This year she was charged $245. I was told this was because she doesn't have the EZ form done. For the last two years she hasn't owed anything to the IRS and she didn't receive anything. I contacted my city hall and asked if there was a tax service for seniors. There is and it is for free done by retired IRS tax people. I showed the person my mother's tax return papers and he was startled at the amount she was charged for what is involved in doing her taxes. Beware.

For Aggravated. Call 1-800-hrblock.

H&R Block has a standard guarantee if there is an error caused by the tax preparer then they will pay at the least but, may pay the entire amount. It is called Peace of Mind. If any of you on here have a problem. H&R Block does stand beside you.

I worked for a CPA firm. When a lady sued the CPA for a mistake on her return the CPA threw us assistants under the bus.

I ended up having a judgement on my record!!!! Also, if you contact corporate offices for H&R Block they have been known to assist with pricing issues.

I have worked with Hr block as my tax company for 10 yrs. Last year i tried best of both where you wtill work with a tax advisor but you input most of the info yourself.

This year I signed up for best of both again and ran into errors in wantng to use the same tax advisor I have used for 8 yrs including using best of both last year. After 3 weeks of being unable to choose my advisor (who has been with hr block for 21 years) I learned that some advisors and locations are not available for best of both and my advisor was removed. Having already paid $79 for best of both it wad Reccommended I pick another local tax advisor. I picked the only one available in all of north texas and 3 days later was assigned to a different person one hour away.

I haf completed tge return and called the advisor who promptly told me that my return could not be done through best of both and that my returned required face to face. She charged me $523 for the return. This was a most obvious case of bait and switch I have ever seen.

While I feel robbed I am 2 weeks from tax deadline now and I am not left with much choice but to pay. But I feel others should know about what you may be getting yourself into with hr block.

You were never under any obligation to have H&R Block do your taxes. You could have heard the fee, gathered your income documents and walked out the door.

There are always other options available at your disposal.

Online, free and other paid preparers. Oops on you for not being more proactive years ago.

Gave much higher price after work done than before

I went to H&R Block located at 9179 Grissom Rd., Ste. 139 today to have my taxes filed. The office was very hurried when I showed up for my 9:00 a.m. appointment. The lady who was assigned to do my taxes was filling in for receptionist who did not show up. Every time the phone rang, she had to answer it and stop working my case. When we finally got down to business, the tax preparer told me that I did not have to file taxes due to the fact that all of my income was non-taxable disability benefits. She said that I could file but I would be paying $39 for peace of mind more than anything. I told her that I would like to file and that I would be happy to pay $39 for peace of mind when dealing with the IRS. She went through the forms on the computer which took approximately 10 minutes even with the interruptions. Then, she printed out the bill and the total was $149.95. Of course, I objected and she told me that the computer tells her what to charge. She forced in a bogus coupon which got the bill down to 126.25. She looked at me and asked if that made me happy. Of course, my answer was no. She did not say another word and asked me how I would pay. I thought that a respected company like HR Block would honor a price quoted by their senior tax consultant for that office. However, there was no help to be found and I had no choice but to pay the rediculous price. I think that it was a rip-off and I will never, ever return to HR Block unless I feel like paying three times more than I am told it will be. Getting screwed is not my favorite passtime. Ron Carta

H & R Block Fees

I am a senior who recently moved to a larger city. I decided on H.& R Block to get my taxes done this year thinking the fee would be comparable to what I have been paying for a short form, which was about $100. I did see a chart with fees posted and from what I saw, my cost should have been about a $100 for a single person with a short form. How surprised I was that I was charged $249. And that was without taking their $35 AT EASE policy not to worry that the form had been done correctly. I will never use H & R again! Just wanted elderly people to be aware that you will be charged too much. I could have driven 65 miles to my former CPA and saved a lot, if I had only known.

I just had my very simple taxes filled with H&R Block. I am single no dependents and no income aside from a little interest income.

The crooks charged me 250.00 which I thought was outrageous I had figured about 75.00 and never asked the fee. I will never ever go back to any h&r block again. I could of had a CPA done it for that amount or less.

I am not very happy with such a business and would report them if I knew where to go.. :(

A short form in CPA/Tax lingo is taking the standard deduction and not itemizing deductions not just a 1040ez which allows for no dependants. $249.00 is a rip off for a simple tax return with a standard deduction.

It could be done in a CPA offic ein less than 15 minutes.

The RAC (rip off aniticpaton loan) is how these places make their money and the ridiculous fees they charge. People should realize that they are paying almost 400% interest many times on these refund loans.

I went to H&R Block to help with a C schedule for a very small home based business (made less than $16,000). No complications with the preparation.

They charged me $475!!!!

I plan on filing a complaint. Where would be the most effective place to do so?

Guest

A 1040A is $99 flat fee, to be higher would indicate you are on form 1040, which would be a result of something additional. One such example would be investment income.

If you have a question your tax pro did not satisfy for you, ask someone else.

The short form is the 1040EZ. Considering you're a senior you likely have Social Security and/or Retirement income that disqualifies you from using the short form.

The short form only includes W2, interest income and unemployment. These are IRS rules and guidelines not H&R Block.

Sorry that you were unaware of the rules before you went and filed. Oops!

Dont trust H&R Block!

I did my taxes and chose the delux option through H&R block's website...I spent at least 2 hrs doing my own taxes...when I went to file the total was $130 I was told for an extra $30 a professional could review my taxes and protect me incase of an audit. I spent the extra $30. The tax professional review my taxes and told me to give her the permission to efile my taxes. I tried giving the permission to efile my taxesand I was forced to spend an extra $30. If I knew I was going to spend over $160 I could have went to an accountant H&R Block online is a total SCAM watch out!
