They charged me $353.00 to process my federal taxes that reflected a total adjusted gross income of only $13,179 total, and a miniscule refund of $438.00, because I had to file a schedule C. My parents pay $450.00 to have a CPA do their taxes and they own property, have several investments as well as do contract work and need to use a schedule C.

I didn't know what to do. They charged me 75% of my refund and I still need to do my state taxes.

Tax preparation fee should never be based on your income or refund amount. H&R Block is so high because it’s a franchise.

Only a fraction of their fee stays with the office preparing the returns.

The rest goes to corporate. Typically a CPA is cheaper and way more knowledgeable.
